June 9: Water, water, everywhere.
Giggles + 2 friends + 1 big kid named “Daddy” + 1 water hose + 2 water guns = 1 big, fun, soaking mess!

April 27: Pot shot.
We spent the long weekend (Tuesday is Romania’s Labor Day) in Maramureş, which is beautiful, green, sheep-filled countryside with a smattering of 300-year-old wooden churches, ornate carved gates, and village folk who still wear traditional Romanian garb. Another custom is the pot tree, like this one at the inn where we stayed. In the past, people would get their water from the well on their property and hang the pots on a nearby tree to dry. (A red pot at the top of the tree meant there was a girl of marrying age in the house, according to our innkeeper.) Now, most places have running water, but the symbol continues to represent the area’s history. Isn’t it neat?
