June 15: 9 to 5.
The goodbye party at Daddy’s work was not nearly as interesting (despite the beer cans with the bear on them!) as the water cooler, ping-pong balls, and strange glass doors that wouldn’t open without a badge-swipe.

June 10: Bye-bye, bunnies.
In true Romanian style, we threw ourselves a going-away party on Sunday. Despite trying to give away many of our things, we were inundated with thoughtful, personal, touching gifts, from an ostrich egg to this book of Romanian photographs being inscribed by its giver. It was a wonderful, albeit bittersweet, party.

October 25: Work/Play.
My husband and I went out last night. Honest-to-goodness out, with a babysitter and everything. His office had reserved a local club for its annual party. After climbing a very windy, narrow staircase on my crutches, I settled in with a piña colada and some appetizers. I caught up with a few of his colleagues and their wives that I knew already and got to meet some others for the first time. Then the music started pumping, the dancing picked up, and conversations turned to the kind where you scream in your neighbor’s ear to be heard. I felt like I was back in college … and I have a sore throat this morning to prove it! Morning-after aches and all, it was nice to spend a few hours feeling like a grown-up, instead of a patient.

October 8: Party time.
Today’s a big day. My mom arrives from the States. It’s her first overseas trip, and we can’t wait to see her. Then, while she is resting from her loooooooong flights, Lollipop and Giggles have their first Romanian birthday party. Their friend from preschool, who recently moved here from Jordan, is turning five. The banner is made to welcome my mom, the birthday present is wrapped, and the kiddos are ready. R-E-A-D-Y.
