February 1: Lovin’ it.
Valentine’s Day is only sort of a holiday here in Romania. A few stores have small sections of heart-shaped candles, stuffed bears covered in lipstick kisses, and such. But there are no aisles devotes to pink-, red-, and silver-wrapped candies, no rows of boxed Snoopy or Hot Wheels valentines, no pastel candy hearts that declare “UR COOL.” So when I saw these Valentine’s Day decorations up at the mall, I had to stop and smile (and take a picture.) For a moment, it felt just the way February should.

  1. Stacia,

Don’t worry. Valentines day is slowly coming to what you know and expect, but for now, you will need to look to March 8th ( International Women’s Day) and then to Mărţişor. ( I’m married to a Romanian girl and had to learn this the hard way)

    Hope this helps

    • Yes, I’m looking forward to getting my pin! We enjoyed St. Nicholas Day so much back in December, and I’m really excited about the March holidays that are new to us, too.
