December 24: There’s no place like … Slovakia … for the holidays.
We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at an inn in Veľký Meder, Slovakia. It was decorated beautifully for the holidays, the innkeeper made us a delicious traditional (by Slovakian standards, anyway) dinner, and we swam and soaked for hours and hours at the nearby thermal spa. The only thing is, we were the only ones at the hotel. It was surreal having it all to ourselves, though also kind of liberating since there were no other guests to bother with stampeding children’s feet and oh-my-goodness-Santa-visited-us! squeals.
