September 27: Dacia, rhymes with “gotcha.”
This is a Dacia, a Romanian-made car that you’ll find on almost every street. This particular one is a Communist-era model down the way from us. Towards the main road, there is even one with a blue racing stripe up the middle. An expat friend tells the story of living here during Communism when everyone who wanted a car had to apply for a permit and get approved. The government then doled out Dacias as it saw fit. She and her husband were issued a bright yellow one, to set them apart as foreigners, she always thought. The current models are still colorful, as well as sporty. In fact, most taxis are Dacias!
