September 17: Dining out.
Major milestone last night: We went out to eat! It was my first time out of the apartment (except for meetings and doctor’s appointments) since I broke my leg. More importantly, it was a chance for my dad to experience Romanian cuisine and enjoy a night out of the apartment, too. Aroma, the restaurant we went to, had lots of trees surrounding the outdoor patio, a playground for the kids, and great music (everything from some peppy German stuff to American Oldies). We sampled a fruit-and-cheese platter and explained to my dad that beer is usually the cheapest drink on the menu. (So we had some, of course.) Then we ordered chicken and pork specialty dishes, peasant potatoes, mămăligă, and mushroom crepes. We stayed out late enjoying the crisp fall air and came back home full and exhausted. It was wonderful!

  1. Sounds like a great evening out. 🙂

  2. Definitely my number one reason for traveling – sampling local cuisine. Oh I wish I could have what you’re enjoying now…
