July 19: Hymnals and books of scripture in this church. I walk by here almost every day and I’ve taken to spending a few quiet, centering moments in its rose garden. I’ve tried to go inside a few times, only to find the doors locked. But not today. Today, they were wide open and I stepped inside with Bun. We were alone, except for the church secretary, who sat doing a crossword puzzle after I asked if I could take a few pictures. The painted dome ceiling and rich, gold-leaf frescoes of saints were amazing, but these worn books, tucked in a nook off to the side, really caught my eye.
