July 17: Communist blight. Dotting the Romanian landscape, in the countryside and in the cities, are these ramshackle, sometimes-abandoned concrete high-rises designed to house many, many people in really, really small spaces. They’re dreary, but they also tell such a story. And to me, that makes them kind of … beautiful.

  1. I like these sort of buildings as well, as long as I don’t have to live next to them.

  2. When I see empty homes, empty buildings, I do wonder what stories the walls could tell. I wonder at the laughter and tears that flowed within the walls. It is an endless curiosity to me. You are right about the beauty.
